Formation Z  Jaleco (Hect)1985Taking place in the year 2701, the player controls a robot which can transform into an aero fighter on a mission to stop an alien super weapon from reaching the Earth. The robot may move forwards, backwards and jump, and the aero fighter may travel anywhere on screen but has limited fuel in which to do so. A combination of the two must be used to avoid obstacles, as well as to destroy any on-screen enemies for extra points.
Source: Wikipedia***A rather monotonous side-scrolling shoot'em up game. Prominent feature of this game is the ability to switch between a land-based robot form and air-borne fightercraft. Everything is standard, unspectacular shoot'em up gameplay with rather plain graphics and sound as well as too many loops regarding the level environments.

Warpman  Namco1985Simple single-screen shooter where you have to kill a certain amount of aliens to finish a stage. Warpman is basically an improved version of the 1981 arcade game [game=#763]Warp Warp[/game]. There are two different playing fields. The one is in space and has very straightforward shooting gameplay, the second one is in a Bomberman-style maze where you have to leave bombs on the ground to kill nearby enemies. labelimageminimize
Lost Word of JeNnY: Ushinawareta Message  Takara (Tose)1987"Lost Word of Jenny" is based on the "Jenny" dolls toyline, a kind of Japanese "Barbie". In six levels you are collecting parts of a passcode to finish the game. Compared to Takara's first Famicom game [game=#155967]Transformers: Convoy no Nazo[/game] , "Lost Word of Jenny" is an improvement, but not by much. The levels look different from each other and are connected by a city overworld scenario but have a very repetitive layout. The jumping controls are bad and its nearly impossible to land precise attacks. labelimageminimize
Ginga no Sannin  Nintendo (Enix)1987A Sci-Fi RPG from Nintendo and Enix? That should be a great game I supposed. Well, it turns out to be quite average. It does feature nice character images and an interesting story, but inbetween the constant typical random turn-based battles with a much too high encounter rate got me pretty bored. Instead of a nice overworld map you fly through boring space and the travel time between stars is filled with said random encounters. Boosters will help later on with traveling huge distances but traveling did stay the negative point of the game. Besides the standard space travel you visit several planets which contain underground tunnels that you can fly through in side-view perspective, often to beat a boss or collect an important item. The same random encounter battles as in space are present there.*** labelimageminimize

0-47875-42188-2 is actually the UPC for the Commodore 64 version (it has been removed from this entry).

The game has "Jungle Mode" and "Big Mode" offering two simular but different styles of gameplay. The Japanese version begins with Big Mode where as other versions begin in Jungle mode. (This lead to two entries at UVL at one time)

Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road  K Amusement Leasing;SNK (Micronics)1988"Ikari Warriors II" is just as badly playable as its predecessor with stiff controls being the biggest problem. The levels are just much shorter, which is a big plus in this case. Graphics are a mixed bag. Looks ok on still screenshots and the sprites are bigger than before, but the sprites are not well animated and the color scheme of the background graphics is strangely monotonous. The story wins a 'plain stupid' award with the heroes being transported into the far future to rescue Earth from aliens. Well, doesn't matter anyway.***When we last saw Paul and Vince, they had saved the Colonel and were about to head for home in a special plane given to them by the General. But then, while in flight over the ocean, the sky suddenly blackens - the ocean begins to churn - and the plane goes spinning! A booming voice fills the cockpit: "Hear me, Warriors! Zang Zip, the War Dog, has enslaved the people of Earth. Only you can save us from his grip of evil!" Caught in a time warp, hurled thousands of years into the future, Paul and Vince know they have no choice but to meet this impossible challenge head-on. After all, they are professionals... they are the Ikari Warriors!***1 player or 2 players simultaneous cooperative.

Cosmo Police: Galivan  Nichibutsu1988"Cosmo Police Galivan" is a Metroid-style action adventure game with some RPG elements like killing monsters for xp to increase your Max life and power. The game has been changed quite a lot compared to the original arcade version, which was less "adventure" and more "action" oriented. That does not mean that the Famicom version in its core is still an action game. Most importantly it plays well enough to be enjoyable. It consists of 6 levels each being rather non-linear. Graphics and sound are good as well. labelimageminimize

Alien Syndrome  Sunsoft;Tengen (Sanritsu)1988The extra-terrestrials in this game are anything but friendly. They're slimy monsters that are holding space colonists captive aboard seven alien starships.
For one or two players, this super action game challenges you to free the helpless hostages. Search each ship's deadly levels, using flamethrowers and laser cannons to vaporize alien scum. Look for maps to help you find your way.
After you've saved all the captives from one ship, you must destroy its powerful leader before you can move on to the next ship. Remember, to the aliens, you're slime. And they want you good... and dead!***Play the arcade version instead.

Jesus: Kyoufu no Bio Monster  King Records (Chunsoft)1989In 2061, there has as yet been no contact with extraterrestrial lifeforms. Recently, however, some sort of life had been detected in Halley's Comet - which is oddly headed straight for Earth's solar system. The nations of Earth (or at least the United States, Japan, Italy, France, Germany, China, Brazil, and the Soviet Union) quickly band together to form an elite group of astronauts to investigate. They are to launch in two separate ships from the skylab 'Jesus' and take a sample from the comet, analyze it, and the nations will decide what to do from there. On the same day that the first ship, the appropriately named 'Comet', harvests gas from the comet, it stops responding. The captain of the second ship sends you to investigate. The story that follows is one that is somewhat predictable, but it arrives at that point via so many appropriately-done twists and turns that the player will always keep guessing. Some of the scenes in the game are so well-done they have to be seen (and heard) in order to have the full effect.

Fester's Quest  Sunsoft1989The Addams family are not very strange, in fact they are quite smart. You see, it was Ma-Ma who always warned of the alien UFO coming to invade their city. All the other Addams thought she was crazy, but Ma-Ma, using her crystal ball, put a protective spell on the Addams family house. As Uncle Fester was Moonbathing one night, the fabled UFO appeared and beamed all the people in the town up. When the Aliens scanned the Addams house for life forms, they found none, thanks to Ma-Ma's spell. It is Gomez who must protect the Addams house, so Fester took his trusty gun and set out on his quest to rescue all the townspeople from the Alien UFO. labelimagesubject

Rocket Ranger Kemco;Seika (Kemco)1990The 21st century needs you! Across the boundaries of time and space you have been chosen to save Planet Earth from a monstrous alien invasion. Rise to the challenge with courage, skill, and the help of three fantastic devices: a rocket suit, ray gun and powerful wrist computer. Only you can change our planet's destiny as the world's first hero of the future... ROCKET RANGER!***In 1990 technology from the future is sent to the hero to stop [s]nazis[/s] aliens from finally winning WWII that has continued to be waged despite ending much earlier in the original time line. One of the bits of technology is a rocket pack that uses on lunarium, which only occurs on the moon. In this time-line, mankind has not yet reached the moon and in fact lacks the technology to do so. This is possible because Aliens have joined the Axis Alliance. The hero, now the Rocket Ranger, has a rocket pack, but needs lunarium to fly it and the Allied Countries need parts and additional lunarium to complete and pilot a rocket to the moon and shutdown the mining operation there. The Rocket Ranger will be stealing these from the aliens. Due to heavy censoring, the "Axis Alliance", "Allied Countries", and of course "Nazi" have been remove. That leaves human looking aliens capable of interstellar flight, fighting the Rocket Ranger with 1940s era technology such as ME 209s and their fists. The only advanced 'technology' they have is lunarium which turns out to have the side effect of lowering the IQ of males. Which they plan to use by dropping it from high altitude zeppelins where conventional aircraft and artillery cannot reach them. I guess it can be assumed by 1990 the physics have been overcome that prevented zeppelins from making a round trip from Axis territory to London while carrying enough firepower or chemical weapons to make an effective attack from high altitude. Ok, so perhaps the aliens do have some advanced technology. And of course they assume that if the Earth has more dumb males that it'll be easier to win. The other piece of future technology is a radium pistol which the Rocket Ranger can use to shoot down ME 209s that try to intercept him when he's in coming or going from lunarium and rocket parts stealing missions.

Power Punch II  American Softworks (Beam)1992Punch-Out!! was an Arcade Coin-op by Nintendo
Super Punch-Out!! was a conversion kit by Nintendo for Punch-Out!!
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was the home version of Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!, having some characters from both and original characters.
Super Punch-Out!! was also released for Super Nintendo and features the Arcade characters and characters from the NES versions of Punch-Out!!

Beam software had been developing a sequel to Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (expecting Nintendo to keep the Tyson license for many years to come) called Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch. Due to Nintendo's not renewing the deal to use Tyson's name and likeness, the main character was renamed to Mark Tyler, but Nintendo still didn't like what Beam had created so the passed up the opportunity to publish it. American Softworks wanted to publish it so Beam let them. It was retitled Power Punch II despite the fact that it was the first Power Punch game to be released.

Later Nintendo created a Punch-Out version for Wii that was influenced by all previous versions except the Intergalactic/Power Punch releases.

The original version featuring Tyson was available as a reproduction, RET-MT-GBL, from RetroZone.
